My take on this:

The Flames window starts now.

It was an expensive acquisition, but good players on good contracts always are.

Hamonic fits the Flames like a T, the perfect compliment to Brodie and our top 4 d-men.

The Flames team today is good enough to make the playoffs and take a run at the Cup.

There is a ton of randomness when you reach the playoffs these days. The margins are very slim, and the difference between winning in the playoffs and losing is often simply a matter of the bounce of the puck.

In a cap world, once you get a team capable of making the playoffs fairly easily, it is incumbent on the GM to basically go all in for those 5 years or so to give yourself the best chance at winning the cup.

This is not the time for a GM to sit on his hands and plan for the future.

The future for the Flames is now, and good on Treliving for recognizing that.

Sit back and enjoy the next few years as the Flames have a chance of competing for the SC.

That's all you can ask for, no guarantees ever of winning.
