In a draft without top tier talent, there's nothing wrong with taking a rock steady defenseman who, at best, you only need to be a #4.
People worry about whiffing at the top of the draft, but I think missing on quality depth in the bottom half of round one sinks an awful lot of teams.

That's why I don't care if guys like Klimchuk/Poirier/Shinkaruk only become 3rd/4th line guys as long as they make the NHL and stick. You need to fill 20 spots on the roster. Doesn't matter if it's a 1st line star like Gaudreau, or a #5-6 D-man. Filling each spot with quality is the most important thing.
