I guess teams took it as a warning sign that he might lack commitment?

Well I dunno about all the scouting reports but THN (who somehow had him 11th) called him a "defensive liability", "slight and a little soft". At 5'10, 170 he's quite small. One dimensional scoring winger with size issues, defense issues, softness issues. I can see why he fell. Centres and defensemen are usually prioritized by NHL teams because they are more valuable. Only the best wingers go high. Tippett, Suzuki, Chytil, Yamamoto and Vesalainen the only wingers to go ahead of him.
