They got two good players for a pick. It's a high pick, but the draft isn't good at the top end this year.
They took some risk that they lost out on a star at 7, but odds are that whoever they take at 7th won't be a better player than Stepan.

I agree with this. My point is that they didn't need to pay that price, as the rangers were very anxious to move Stephan.
