We saw what Vegas thought about getting term in the expansion draft, getting 1st round picks to take on term.
Now we have Arizona giving up a 7OA to take on a large term, albeit for a better player.
NYR were anxious to get rid of Stephan, Arizona could have done much better.
NYR will end up with Shattenkirk and the 7OA out of this.
Cap space is very valuable, and Arizona failed to account for this.

Arizona is never going to use all of their cap space, so if they have a guy who might be a bit overpaid, it's not the end of the world.
They got two good players for a pick. It's a high pick, but the draft isn't good at the top end this year.
They took some risk that they lost out on a star at 7, but odds are that whoever they take at 7th won't be a better player than Stepan.
