Anyways, first of all, PPG is virtually the same for those top 4. 2nd. Backlund just turned 28 which in my opinion means he's 1 year into his 4 prime centreman years. So his 25 year old PPG is irrelevant. Previous 3 year average PPG isn't something the GM or Backlunds agent is going to bring up negotiating terms. It's 'what have you done for me lately', which has been being a top defensive centreman in the NHL. Earns you $6mil a year normally.
Calm down man, I was saying that I said "points" but probably should have said "points per game", because IMO total points doesn't tell you much. I wasn't attacking you at all.

(Btw, "adding goals and assists" doesn't give you points per game.)

If you're telling me that a GM only cares about what happened last season in evaluating what to pay on a contract, I have oceanfront property in Calgary you may be interested in. And given that Tre will be interested in paying as little as possible, the fact that Backlund had 27 points three seasons ago will almost certainly be mentioned.

Consistency over three seasons is very relevant, because lots of players have one offensive outburst season that they will never even remotely approach again (see Stajan, Matt). I'm not saying Backlund is that, but until he shows more offensive consistency, it's a valid argument against paying him the same kind of money the other guys on this list are getting.
