Even as a person who doesn't even watch the games - I buy season tickets so I can spreadsheet at the games instead of at home in my parents' basement - I'm okay with Hamonic as a second-pairing defenceman with Brodie. Certainly I would rather Hamonic than Stone even if their contracts were the same. But the asking price for Hamonic is hilarious. His shot suppresion numbers, while down in an injury-filled last season, have never been up to par with his reputation.
Methot, Hamonic, and Stone are all defenceman whose perceived value exceeds their actual ability. It's 2017, punting the puck is not a good thing, the ability the make a solid first pass or reset the breakout is. "When in doubt, glass and out" needs to be retired.
