I looked up 26th avenue on google map and I see a bike lane icon (the bike with the two arrows above it), but I don't see any actual lane markers to delineate the bike lane. How is that supposed to work? Does it just indicate that bikes and cars share the road?

I think I found it. It seems that it means "shared lane" and that bikes and cars share the road.
With the 5-6 seconds between being passed and the accident, if it was one car rear-ending another car, I think the following car would be deemed at fault. I'm not sure if the rules are different for bikes.
Pretty ####ty for the rider though. Drivers are hopefully becoming more aware of what sharing the road with cyclists means.
