Mason could very well be at the top of their UFA goalie list, but they can't do anything with him until the free agent period opens up. (unless they want to ditch a pick for his rights. Maybe they've tried but Hextall won't do it because I've read rumors that there is a chance he circles back to Mason later on)
In the mean time Treliving isn't one to sit on his hands. You can never gamble that a UFA will be available once UFA season opens, and even if he is you can't bank on him signing with you. Tre wouldn't be doing his job properly if he wasn't kicking tires on every goalie you can think of. I bet he's even inquired about goalies like Price and Schneider for example.
