that argument really has no merit, if that were always the case good players wouldn't get traded because they're good. I don't think Buffalo is looking to give Kane away but they're looking for help and they don't see him as part of their future. Drouin just got dealt, is it a red flag that he was dealt at a young age with so much potential? There are a lot of factors to take into consideration with this, he only has one more year on his contract and maybe he told the sabres that he's going to leave anyway and they want to trade him before it's made public. Maybe the sabres think they can get a lot of help in other areas by trading him.
I still think he'd be perfect for the Flames, he just needs a little more guidance.
