Fact remains, the iconic hockey jerseys that have stood the test of time go for elegance and simplicity above all else. If you're going for horizontal striping/piping/whatever, this is what should be targeted:

I get what you're saying and I do agree. However, there's not much else you can do with four colours. That's why the retro colour scheme is far superior.
