“How many people know the City of Edmonton actually pays money to the Oilers, millions of dollars every year, to be a sponsor of the Oilers?

"That was part of the deal. We’re not doing anything like that.”

“I could say: Really, is Rogers, who is giving you all that money, going to be happy about you taking a team out of western Canada?”

“Do you think Pierre Karl Peladeau is going to give you a better deal than the city of Calgary?”

I don't see a deal happening anytime soon, if Nenshi is reelected, than it will take even longer.

Nenshi has one vote.

except if he holds the tie-breaking vote, his vote counts as one. No more and no less that every other member of council.

If the deal is such a no brainer, I am not sure why no other council member is speaking out publicly in favor of an arena? I have yet to hear any passionate or sustained pro-arena member of council...

If the Flames can get 8 of the 14 members of council on their side with respect to publicly funding a new arena, it doesn't matter what Nenshi votes...

I mean, that's my understanding of how our council works? If I am mistaken, i'd certainly welcome any corrections or clarification on city of calgary governance...
