It's a tough place to be though because he inherited a franchise without a franchise goaltender and as with a franchise center if you don't have a franchise goaltender you are forever searching for one until you strike gold in the draft or trade. For all we know he struck gold with Parsons but he's not ready yet so as of right now Treliving really has no other options but rummaging through the trash for recycled goods (Hiller, Elliott, Smith, MAF, etc) or trying to unearth a hidden gem that's on another roster but stuck behind an incumbent starter (Raanta, Grubauer, etc). There's really not a lot of consensus on what the direction should be because there's question marks attached to pretty well every single option. Even I am exhausted with the situation and am just sitting back waiting to see what unfolds rather than trying to argue which goaltender may be the best option as it's such a crapshoot.

I will say if you are going to trade assets (it sounds like the Coyotes are playing the game of trying to milk a trade for more than he's worth) for a 35 year old goaltender like Smith and tie up $12 million in cap space and ownership money you better have a really good feeling that it's going to work out because if it doesn't that will blow up in your face much more than say trading for a guy like Grubbauer where you at least are hedging bets on untapped upside and if it doesn't work out you didn't waste a lot of money or assets. Time will tell and I can't wait until it's over so we can analyze what we have going forward.
