I like Bennett a lot, but Ovechkin would VERY likely do a lot more to help this team win in the next 4 years than Bennett would, and if the loss of Bennett can be offset by either Janko or Lazar stepping up as a solid 3rd line C option, then the Flames are way ahead.

This is where I think your analysis is way off - Bennett should become so much more than a 3rd line C. If that's all he is, then yeah, trade away.
And if that's all he is, the Flames are screwed.
But if he becomes what he is projected to be - a top line C - then Jankowski and Lazar are NOT replacements for him.
Very good and elite Cs are not easy to acquire. The Flames are no longer going to be drafting in the lottery. If we give up on Bennett, the depth of a contending core just isn't there.
Now if we could get Ovechkin for Kylington and a couple 1sts? I'm all in.
