At the end of the day it is almost impossible for the Caps to trade Ovi this year and get anything close to good value back.
There are not many if any 1 for 1 deals that make sense. Perry comes to mind but the cap savings are small and Perry and is coming off a bad season.
How many contending or teams on the rise could fit in a $9.5M cap hotnfoe the next 4 years? Ovi won't go to the Coyotes or Canucks. He will want to ply for a good team.
I think that is a reason the Flames have been listed as a potential landing spot. The team is on the rise, the Flames do not have a single player making $7M+ AAV right now, and they need a top line forward.
The deal is so hard to make and the return would be underwhelming that I just don't see a trade as a realistic possibility until Ovi has 1-2 years left on his deal
