I did. Because the Capitals aren't trading Ovechkin to begin a rebuilding phase at this point, so they are looking at a star for star deal. Your proposal does not come remotely close to being viable.

Seriously, in what scenerio does a team place their franchise player on the trade block with the interntions of improving immediately? The only way the Capitals improve without Ovechkin is if they package Ovechkin with another asset to get another star forward like Crosby, McDavid, Laine or Matthews. Or they make a hockey deal for like a defensemen or goalie.
Ahh, now you're starting to think about what the Caps would need. This is good, because you can now go back to your proposal and understand just how bad it is from Washington's perspective.

BTW, Nashville made exactly that type of trade just this year. Also, Taylor Hall was Edmonton's franchise player right up until they lucked out on the McDavid draft. And the Oilers dealt him for immediate improvement.

There is no way they replace a 30-50 goal scorer. There is simple no way to replace and improve upon who is the best goal scorer of our generation
Washington would be looking for a player who replaces Ovechkin's 30-50 goals and offers a more well rounded game. Also, part of the motivation would be that a change at the top would spark the team's development enough for that final push.

So, of course, I hope you can now see why offering the Capitals a guy who would provide one third to one half of the scoring and some lottery tickets is not a viable proposal.
