Okay, but I'm not sure how their defensive issues are relevant to the Ovechkin discussion.
Ovi uses his size to hit, win battles on the boards, protect the puck, you name it. The only issue I've seen with Ovechkin is his defensive play can be spotty at times.
When I look at the Flames lineup I see three glaring needs: a goal scoring RW (yes Ovi is LW but he shoots right and can play Rw), a solid 4th defenseman, and a starting goaltender. Clearly you value the goaltending and defence over the RW, which is fine, but that doesn't mean you can just ignore the other need.
I'm just not sure what your argument against him is. You've said you don't think he's a fit but I'm not really sure why or how he isn't a fit. His salary isn't ideal but I'm willing to pay it for a player as good as Ovi.
