Kylington also has immense upside and that trade could easily blow up in Calgary's face. Personally I don't see any team that wants Ovie offering up a package that includes a 21 year old centre that was 4th overall and will only cost ~$2.5M, a 19 year old smooth skating Dman with 2 years in the AHL, and multiple 1sts. The Caps get $7M in cap space in the deal, reload on prospects and get a good centre off the bat.
I feel if the Caps wanted to land young star building blocks they needed to make the trade 2-3 years ago when Ovie was still in his 20's. 33 goals and 69pts are solid numbers for someone making $6.5M not $9.5M

Of course Bennett isn't viewed as the future 3C. But we already have a really good #1 and #2 so it's possible they could view him as expendable if they believe Janko will be AT LEAST a 3C going forward (maybe even more) and they want to get the team into the "running" stage starting next year which Ovechkin would certainly do, but Bennett wouldn't.
Of course Kylington has immense upside. If the Flames actually made an offer to the Caps for Ovy, they aren't going to offer them scraps.
