I'm not entirely sure about this. The USA is gearing itself up to be an oil exporter in 20 years time or so. This will change things dramatically.

The Saudis will always have a lot of influence, as they essentially have control over price. Things could change with the USA though. Hopefully the USA gets into a position where they are no longer reliant on middle eastern oil but their economy doesn't become dependent on oil exports. USA energy independence could change the political landscape dramatically.
