This guy had a fairly substantial support system and toxic community, but he'd easily be laughed off. It's the banality of evil that makes it so dangerous. It starts with people who say/post a few questionable things, while society allows their bigotry and hate to slowly ferment. What starts off as benign seemingly transforms into something cancerous and dangerous.

Not that white nationalists, especially those willing to use violence aren't always a concern, but is that movement really on the rise? Seems like in the past they've had a lot more support than now. In the 80s they had major politicians running on that platform.
