He was never really the same after that. "Playing through" that injury might have messed up his golf game forever. He had a few splashes in 2009, but that's where things were not as consistent and then the scandal broke.
I don't fully disagree the 2008 US Open gave him long term damage, but he was great in 2009 and 2013. He won 6 times in 2009 and 5 more in 2013. He won the Vardon trophy in both years. He was #2 on the money list in 2012 as well. In 2009 he tied for 6th in the Masters and US Open, and 2nd in the PGA. That was the year he led for the first 3 rounds of the PGA before YE Yang beat him. 2013 was also the year of the Masters' penalty. Woods almost holed his 3rd shot at 15, but hit the bottom of the flag stick. At worst it should have stuck around for a birdie. Instead he got a bogey, and then that was changed to a triple for the illegal drop. He was tied for the lead going into the hole. Instead of taking a one stroke lead, he dropped 3 strokes back. He finished the 2nd round, and the tournament, those four strokes back.
