If the Flames get a true NHL starter next season, I sort of think they should just have inner competition for the back up spot.

Let Rittich, Gillies and even Parsons fight for that spot. Hell even McCollum and McDonald if they're still kicking around.

McCollum is 6'2 230lbs and sound fundamentally. He's got like 250 or so AHL games under his belt over 6 or 7 seasons, and the last 3 years his AHL numbers have been really quite good.

Rittich also has several years of pro experience now, including a really strong showing in the AHL last season.

Gillies and Parsons are top notch goalie prospects with lots of talent and ability.

I'd be a little worried taking that gamble if we get a young starter like Pickard, Grubauer or the like, but with a true NHL vet starter I think you should let the internal competition decide who the back up is.
