Of course it matters. I wish more teams lifted the conference trophy and paraded it around the ice. It's a huge accomplishment to win the conference, fans feel pride over it, and it's an objective that has been reached. I think it's dumb when teams act like it's nothing.

Ask the team that loses the final how much a conference championship matters. Think Thornton is going to brag about the 2016 Western Conference champions? Not a chance.
There's one goal in the playoffs. Anything else leaves a disappointed team and fanbase.
