There are so many more other factors to consider than player value. Each trade will have different 'dimensions' to it and something like this is no exception - it's a large part of how we got Dougie in the first place. And the expansion draft drastically alters the landscape before even taking things like salary crunch, team fit and roster space into account.
- Minnesota is either going to lose one really good forward or one really good dman, thanks to the draft.
- They also happen to be facing a salary crunch at the exact same time that some of the players they need to resign (like Nino) would push them way over if they got what they deserve.
- He's not as good as Monahan or even close to Gaudreau (on an off year!), so we can assume he will get somewhere in the 5's.
- Minnesota has already publicly said they are actively listening on offers for Nino, hinting that they are looking for a good beneficial solution to help them out.
- Minnesota is missing both their 1st and 2nd round picks this year.
- Us trading a good young expansion exempt player to them and also take back someone we'd have to protect drops value further.
