I think both sides of the argument have some truth. I don' think Elliott is a great starter to play more than 40 games, but I like him as a 1B or back-up. It's not a knock on him, some goalies are just better when they are not solely responsible for carrying the team (Turek was the same way).
Looking at the list of likely goalie targets, if we go for a relative unknown, I would welcome bringing Elliott back as an alternate goalie in case plan A goes sideways.
If we get a legit 60+ game #1 goalie, then I would like to see someone like Rittich get a shot at backing up (and salary structure might require such a set up).
The thing that scares me though, is the rumour that Mike Smith is the guy the Flames are going to target. If that is the true, I would rather just bring Elliott back.
