The Flames only had 3 NHL defensemen for most of this year until Stone arrived and a pile of #7's or worse. Hard to be successful when you have that.
The Flames need to address the defense by adding three guys either internally (allowing Andersson/Kylington to come up) or by free agency/trade. Re-signing Stone would help, but the Flames would still need one more guy.
If they can go into next season with 5 or 6 legitimate NHL defenders, maybe they won't need a goalie to play like Carey Price for the team to be successful.

Over-rated for 13 years? Okay then.
And they don't need Care Price goaltending to be successful. They went on runs when both Johnson and Elliott played well.
Has the D been perfect? Definitely not. But lots of exaggeration in your post.
