It's been a while but I've been in a few meetings over transactions with Edwards, including where he was taking on a new venture and new employees. I pause to add that I'm not a cold blooded capitalist, and am more left of centre.
That said, in my experience, Edwards puts a tonne of work into his companies. He wasn't born wealthy, like, say Trump. He was decidedly middle class and worked to get his degrees and later his merchant banking business. He makes shrewd purchases and puts a lot of effort into turning them around (and doesn't flip them like a vulture fund). While he is a guy who doesn't give up a dollar easily or leave a bunch of money on the table, he is fair and doesn't undervalue employees. He's actually a liberal minded guy, for a venture capitalist.
As for his move, you don't move from Calgary to London to save money, either in taxes or in living costs. The reason was purely personal, nothing to do with business.
