If they don't give him a qualifying offer, he'll become a UFA on July 1. This is what the Flames did with Colborne last year (and many other teams have done with many other players over the years).
The Blues could also file for arbitration without giving him a QO. In that situation, they could ask the arbitrator to reduce his salary to 85% of his salary from this season. That would still be over $2million, so I don't see that happening.
