Let's talk about: The Value of Nugent Hopkins and Eberle.
Hopkins: 4 years left at 6 million per, 24 years old
Eberle: 2 years left at 6 million per, 27 years old
Eberle finished the season 94th overall in points, but 55th overall in caphit in the league.
Nugent Hopkins finished 144th in the league in points, but 56th overall in cap hit, with the worst +/- on his team (-10)
Does Nugent Hopkins have any value left? I know he is still young and it wouldn't surprise me if he found more success on another team as many oilers have found once leaving the organization, but with 24 million dollars left on his deal, is he simply too expensive to take a chance on?
Are the oilers going to have to package a different asset with him in order to move him out of the organization, similar to what the Hawks had to do with Bickell? Obviously Nugent Hopkins is a better player at this point than Bickell was when he was traded, but Bickell was only owed about 9 million bucks total for the remainder of that deal. Any team taking on Hopkins is looking at a significantly larger salary liability.
Not many teams can go and add a 6 million dollar player in the hopes that the player turns it around.
What happens with Hopkins in Edmonton?
