If he retires right now, they will incur a recapture penalty of $4.275 million/year that will count against the cap for the next 4 years.
Technically that would save $1 million/year until you factor in the cap hit of the replacement player. Given that the replacement player will likely not be as productive as Hossa next year, Blackhawks are likely better off keeping Hossa.
