Anyone who thinks this needs a reality check. Gilles is going to be given every opportunity to be the #2 goalie next year in Calgary. You don't get NHL experience by playing in the AHL. He's also not a 19 or 20 year old kid. He's 23 and needs to be playing in the NHL if you want him to be an NHL

No, actually typical goalie development would see Gillies starting in the AHL until he dominates that level. Most goalies spend years in the minors or in Europe before making the NHL. Typically you want your goalies playing at the highest level they can while still getting a starter's workload.
I don't see how he would develop better in the NHL as a backup vs starting in the AHL. You have some bizarre ideas about goalie development and I'd be surprised if Flames management agrees with you
