The plan back at the 2016 NHL Entry draft was to acquire a goalie as a 1 year stop gap in order to revisit Ben Bishop as a UFA or forcing the penguins to trade Murray.
If they were sold on Elliot they could have locked him up during or prior to the season for $4.5m a year on a short to mid term deal. Waiting for the playoffs just makes no sense.
There is no best or worst case scenario waiting until the playoffs are over.
Elliot either plays lights out and takes us to the WCSF or WSF and his salary demand increases to $5.5 to $6.0M. Alternatively, if he ####s the bed you aren't going to be able to sign him for $1.0M let alone that $4.5M that was previously mentioned. The fans nor ownership would tolerate that.
The fact they willingly attached that 3rd round pick was reason to believe Elliot was only a 1 term goalie.
Hence I say this again, the only two goalies being targeted are Bishop or Murray.
