They gave the penguins Crosby.
They gave the leafs Matthews.
They turn around and give NJ the #1 overall pick. All because a 1st round pick was taken as a penalty due to Kovalchuk. Now that Kovalchuk is coming back they feel the need to correct the wrongdoing by giving a very unlikely team that #1 overall pick.
Side Note.
Karma is a real bitch for the Avalanche. That organization needs to learn. when you intentionally throw games and end up drafting the 4th best player 1st overall you should learn that being so dishonorable isn't doing positive things for you.
Barkov. Monahan. Jones.
THREE players that will forever haunt you for drafting Mackinnon.
Now you get to draft #4 overall. I feel sorry for the #5/#6 D man they are going to draft. He doesn't deserve being forced to play for the pile of steaming crap that are the Colorado Avalanche.

Despite my opposing view. I did appreciate reading your post
.
I musr admit that I did find humor that in the same post you claim both that the lottery is fixed and that there is Karma involved in the process.
For me, I used to have similar thoughts toward this annual event, but since the Leafs didn't get hometown hero McDavid in a year where they finished near the bottom and the following year where the struggling coyotes didn't get marketing dream Austin Mathews, I am now convinced there is no rig. The New Jersey connection is poor at best.
