You don't build a team with your fingers crossed hoping holes get filled by prospects, definitely not at the goalie position. I think going after a lesser quality goalie than what else is out there just because you can get them on a shorter term, based off the hope that a prospect can take that spot in a few years, is just silly. Go after the best guy available, and if Gillies or Parsons is pushing for the net in 2-3 years you re-evaluate from there.
For the sake of arguement, say Gillies is ready to be a full time starter in 2 years but you still have Bishop signed for another 3. So what? You try and move one of them. Gillies would still be an RFA so it's not like you'd worry about him walking away to find a crease to play in. Having a younger goalie pushing a veteran vezina nominee out of the crease would be an absolutely fantastic problem to have, don't shoot yourself in the foot now trying to avoid it
