I'm sure there's a more recent comparison, but it's a little like the '89 Flames (President Trophy winners) having all sorts of trouble with the Canucks in round one. They went on to sweep the Gretzky-led Kings in round 2. Obviously that doesn't mean the Caps will beat the Pens (let alone sweep them), but favourites gripping their sticks tight isn't un-presidented
in the early going of the playoffs.
