The National Hockey League (NHL) today announced Minnesota Wild forward Mikael Granlund (pronounced mih-KIGH-ehl GRAN-lund) as one of three finalists for this year's Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability. The recipient of the 2017 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, voted by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association, will be announced Wednesday, June 21, during the 2017 NHL Awards from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas at 7 p.m. CT on NBCSN.
Johnny Gaudreau of the Calgary Flames and Vladimir Tarasenko of the St. Louis Blues were also named finalists for the 2017 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. It marks the first time Granlund has been an NHL Award finalist in his five-season career and the first time a Wild player had been named a finalist for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy.
