That's pretty much it.
A large portion of the people who voted for Trump were dumb. There is just no way to get around the fact that most of them didn't know the ACA and "Obamacare" were the same thing. Or that the ACA for that matter, was largely a Republican based compromise on the original proposal. Or that that a billionaire who has never wanted for anything and doesn't know the difference between 7-11 and 9-11, and buys his steel from China; cares one iota for them. They fell hook, line and sinker for a career conman and snake oil salesman that anyone with half a brain saw coming a mile away.
And then there were the other side of the equation, who while not dumb; are guided by racist and misogynist ideology.
Things weren't going well for the old-stock redneck whiteman after having a black dude in office, that they decided to fluster#### everyone rather than have a female in office. They knew Trump would be a disaster, but were willing to accept that if it hurt the people they ignorantly think are their enemies. The "Hey, I don't like Trump either, but he is a necessary evil" group.
