Are we even having a conversation about the playoffs without Brouwer? I can freely admit his contract is awful, but that's what you get when you have to go out and buy top 9 right wingers.
Watch the Flames do it AGAIN this summer for a top line RW spot because there is no choice but to try to field a competitive team when the team's scorers are prime aged for scoring. Tomas Tatar, Nino Niedereiter, TJ Oshie, Patrick Eaves. Whoever it is is going to get PAID.

This is the inability of the Flames to draft and develop. It should've been at least one of those first rounders in Poirer, Klimchuck, Jankowski or Baertchi who developed into a top 6 winger for the Flames, rather than free agents. I guess they got lucky with Gaudreau and Ferland as late round gems, but still, you SHOULD get a few late round gems every now and then regardless.
Nevertheless, Ferland is a clear upgrade over Brouwer and then you have Frolik. So is Chiasson ideal for the 3rd line? No, but remember that Brouwer played with Stajan a few times so he's not exactly ideal either.
