Thanks for the season, I'm already looking forward to next. I thought the Flames got a terrible deal this playoff series. As for how sweeps usually look, this was not supposed to be one.
I thought the Flames played well during all four games. It's all one-goal games with one of the in OT. Good on the PP, good on the PK, they scored nine goals over four games and never got shut out, they had some players that really stepped up (Bennett, Monahan, Versteeg).
I also thought Gulutzan made some adjustments during the series (even though his decision to keep playing Brouwer like he's some sort of all-situations superhero is quite baffling).
I'm gonna go ahead an pile on Elliott. Remove the soft goals and we probably have different outcomes in at least a few of the games here. Put Jake Allen like he plays right now in the Flames net and we have a reverse sweep. We needed Elliott in winning-streak form to show up, not Elliott from October, and he knows it too. That early goal tonight was a joke, and it's pretty sad that his tenure with the Flames probably ends like that, because he really carried this team for a long time this season.
Sucks to go out like this, but we'll get them next year. The tide is just about to turn.
