Captain, I was thinking something along the same lines, where the people are all in purgatory or something like that. Except I don't think there are any supernatural people. I think the monster is really something like the hand of god, taking people off of the island and bringing them to heaven, or something along those lines, and Locke saw it, but doesn't want everyone to know about it.
