VHS tapes to digital, photo prints to digital
Anyone go through this process recently have suggestions?
First the VHS.
Id have to guess how many tapes but possibly 50 to get to digital that can be on a hard drive (I dont need DVD). Did you buy hardware/software and do it yourself OR did you take it in somewhere? Doing it yourself, is it as simple as setting it up and popping in a 6hr tape and then coming back when its done and popping in the next on? What was the cost of taking it in or sending it away?
Next the photo prints.
Lots of photos, probably thousands. Some have negatives, some dont. I dont know if negatives make things easier or higher quality but regardless, a lot of these will need to be done from prints. Did you do this yourself? Is it worth buying a quality scanner? Are there home scanners that I can feed a stack of photos in and it will feed them through or will this need to be done one by one on anything that isnt a professional grade scanner?
If you took it in somewhere, what was the cost per photo? Bulk discount?
Any recommendations on hardware/software to do it yourself or for places to take the tapes and photos in to?
