Except most of the penalties he's taking aren't the kind you're talking about. They're undisciplined stickwork penalties that happen in during game play. All these trips or holds and etc are penalties he's taken all season long. It's the same kind of minors Sam Bennett took all year and he was taking a beating over these by fans and pundits. To me, they're inexcusable and have hurt the team.
I'd like to see Dougie work heavily on his acceleration this summer because it's clear to me over the past 2 seasons that this is his major weakness. He has very high top speed when he gets going, but lacks a dynamic first step and it hurts him because he ends up taking a lot of trips, holds, slashes and etc to compensate. If he can improve that aspect of his game, I could see the minor penalties going down and his offensive game flourish even more.
