Look at Versteeg too, he wasn't prepared for that back-pass at all. He had to react very quickly just to put his blade on the ice to get a shot on goal at all (albeit a weak one). I think every player on the ice and every person in the building expected a shot.
Just bad decision by Gaudreau all around. Good setup on the tying goal earlier but junior level stuff here.
