So I'm just watching the last 10 minutes here to see what Haynes is talking about.

At roughly 9 minutes Ferland ices the puck, then gulutzan sends out a couple of mixed up lines, sending gaudreau out with backlund and brouwer out with monahan. Then Hamilton takes his bad crosschecking penalty so Ferland isn't going to see much ice there.

So, through 6 of the last 10 minutes Ferland has about a minute or so of icetime, which doesn't seem outrageous considering there was a full 2 minute penalty to kill off.

Then immediately following the PK, bennett and brouwer are on the ice killing the penalty. Brouwer takes the draw (which he wins, the only flame who took more than one draw last night who finished over 50%). Ducks then ice the puck so the Flames come back with Ferland - Monahan - Gaudreau and then the ducks take the penalty after Ferland spends the shift pumping his legs.

So then on the PP the Flames come back with Brouwer with Gaudreau and Monahan, presumably because:

1) That's how the PP is drawn up
2) Ferland was just on the ice pumping his legs on the forecheck
3) Brouwer is basically the only option for a winger faceoff win in the event Monahan is waved off.

After the first minute of the PP the ducks get another penalty so the Flames come back with Monahan - Versteeg - Gaudreau, so once again they go with their two best options plus a rested winger.

The Flames then spend the next 45 seconds with the same set of players on the ice until they pull the goalie and add backlund before MOnahan and Versteeg go off for a change and Frolik and Tkachuk come back on.

For the final 16 seconds the Flames come back with Gaudreau - Monahan - Brouwer, conceivably so that Brouwer can win the draw if need be.

Brouwer does good work on the draw and then does great work going after Kesler and Theodore while Kesler is on the ice.

Basically, there was no room on the ice for Ferland.
