Am I saying Mason will bust ? No. However Demko has a much higher percentage of becoming a real NHL goalie and he always has. Obviously our scouts seen something to put Mason above Demko, but it's looking like they were wrong.
This is not so. At the draft, Demko was the 'favorite' to be the first goalie chosen - he was indeed the top-ranked goalie prospect at the draft, but there was a lot of noise that MacDonald - who was the second-ranked goalie in the draft - was the better goalie and would be the first goalie chosen.

Hindsight thus far has shown Demko to be the better one, and I will agree with you that every scout probably does have Demko ahead of MacDonald, but that is simply was not the case at the draft.

Either way, it isn't like the Flames just passed on Demko to take some unknown that would probably have been passed over by every other team in the league. I remember watching Demko in BC, and I thought he had a propensity for allowing weak goals in, and didn't want the Flames to draft him at all. I still don't think Demko is that great of a prospect, but I do think he is now better than MacDonald for sure.

However, who knows what happens in the next few years. Maybe some work in the AHL will get MacDonald to become more consistent, and he overtakes Demko. At this stage in their development, anything is definitely possible there. So why argue so much about it? Parsons and Gillies are better prospects than either of them.
