if they have any success in playoffs the excitement will return, but unless it's a deep run I predict it'll be a bit more subdued than usual. Don't get me wrong, people will still be going crazy, just not like 2004. I tack it up to a couple things, not in any particular order:
1) the 04 run was 7 years of playoff drought, this one is 1 year. That kind of drought brings the rain. Watch Edmonton this year, they'll be going bananas.
2) the city is still reeling a bit as a result of the downturn. People have less disposable income to burn, run around, drink and party with. People have serious problems they need to focus on, like feeding their family or paying their mortgage. And if they haven't lost their jobs, the stress level on people has risen significantly which impacts the "care-free" nature of people during times like these.
3) the building drama. I think most Calgarians sort of roll their eyes about the whole thing. A billionaire wants a handout, sweet. It has gone over like a lead balloon for most people.
