If you are not going to get your damage deposit back, you should fat bomb the place before you leave.

Ok, probably not good advice, but I am a vindictive prick.

I had a landlord try to stiff me on returning a damage deposit before. There was actually no controversy, he just ignored my phone calls probably hoping I would let it go. Fortunately, my wife has a lawyer in her family and he wrote a letter on his office letterhead for free and it was enough to scare him into giving our deposit back. In reality though, we never really would have followed through with legal action.

The guy was a real piece of work though. He had a police officer style hat that he would wear at night while walking his mastiff. He would go around the neighbourhood acting like some community law enforcement agent interrogating teenagers and young adults, when really he was just a guy with a hat he bought from Value Village, but I digress.
