It's important to put things into context and see the bigger picture when looking at Treliving's body of work. Byron and Granlund are both having great seasons, and Brouwer has been underwhelming so far, but the Flames needed to get bigger and tougher to compete in the West, especially on the RW. Treliving has put together a well balanced team that doesn't appear to have any huge weaknesses as they transition from rebuild to potential contender.
I also think the trade he pulled off to get Hamilton is one of the best deals since Sutter brought in Kiprusoff for a 2nd rounder. Guys like Hamilton hardly ever become available in the NHL and we are watching him steadily improve into one of the league's best defensemen. I look back and am still amazed that Boston let him go for some draft picks that look unlikely to become impact players in the NHL.
