He didn't dive, he played in the toughest areas of the ice, he played for the love of the game, his country, and his team. What makes him similar to any of those players other than which team he played for and which team you cheer for.

Here are a few I found quickly. Smyth always tried to make things look like they were an accident. Except it was easy to tell things weren't just accidents when he kept doing them over and over. Dirty sneaky rat boy.
Smyth elbows Richardson.
Smyth elbows Kunitz.
Smyth knees Kovalev.
Smyth and his hit the shaft of the goalie stick patented move.
Smyth slashing and slashing. Note Heatley come in and cross check Smyth to make him stop the embarassment.
