From what I've seen, I believe he'll make a better winger than a centerman right now. I think he'd help out the team most playing wing to someone like Matt Stajan. At the moment, Matt Stajan is a better center option for several reasons:

- Faceoffs: 51% for Stajan vs 46% for Bennett (Freddie Hamilton - 58%)
- Even strength points: Surprisingly, Matt Stajan is out producing Sam Bennett at even strength for the amount of minutes they play with less offensively gifted linemates as well
- Defense: Matt Stajan right now is more experienced and plays better defensively against the opposition's centers. He even has a positive +/- whereas Sam Bennett has the worst +/- among forwards on the team. Those who discount this stat can't deny that it's certainly better to have a player who will be on the ice for a goal rather then a goal against.
- Offense: I personally believe that Sam Bennett will produce more offense as a winger because he won't have the same defensive responsibilities and instead can focus on playing a more north-south game, forechecking, shooting more and driving to the net instead of trying to be a distributor.
